World War II questions: Why did the birds not sing? Why did the Russians paint it all blue? In 1944 a large area west of Helsinki, the Porkkala area, became a Soviet army base. The Igor museum makes the destinies of this period come alive.
Igor Museum is a small museum in the cosy village of Degerby. Within easy reach along the highway 51, you find the touching stories of human destiny during the so called Porkkala Parenthesis period and after. It tells you about the Soviet army period commencing in 1944, which was to last for 50 years, but ended in 1956. And it tells you about the destiny of the inhabitants who had to leave their homes, and who came back to to build up their house and their lives again.
