The Arctic museum Nanoq melts into the surrounding and lives according to the seasons just like the old houses in northern Greenland.
Nanoq which means "polar bear" in Greenlandic is Finland's largest Arctic museum and is modelled on a turf house in northern Greenland. Nanoq contains among other things: Equipment from known Arctic expeditions, Arctic hunting and trapping equipment from the end of the 17th century untill current times, large collection of Arctic literature and films, noted collection of soap stone carvings made by the Inuit people of Arctic Canada as well as other art. An additional special exhibition is held every summer.
Nanoq has seating for up to 75 people. Audio-visual equipment and a modern kitchen. Café & Restaurant services should be booked in advance. Two genuine Finnish saunas for 15-20 persons. Guided tours are organised for groups of max 70 people.
