Helsinki Region spreads around the brisk metropolis Helsinki - from the sunny South Coast, over the cultural settings along the King's Road and finally reaching the historic towns in the East.
Helsinki Region shows a good view to the variety of Finland's nature. We have an archipelago to be proud of, beautiful hills in the north-western area and the generous valleys in between them. In the East you will find a cultural region with the most manor houses in the whole Finland.
Helsinki Region is strongly influenced by its historic ironworks milieus and numerous manors. The long history of the region combined with the wealth of the modern cultural scene promises the visitor lots of options to explore and enjoy.
Biking at King's Road
To experience as much as possible during your visit to Helsinki Region you should travel the King's Road, an ancient highway of historical, cultural and touristic interest which follows the medieval mail coach route. Nowadays the King's Road also focuses on contemporary southern Finnish arts and science. Numerous cultural events are regularly held along the King's Road.
Around 120 international flights a day arrive at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport, in the heart of the Helsinki Region. Helsinki serves as the gateway to Southern Finland and its forests and clear lakes. A variety of interesting destinations makes it ideal for day trips. Due to excellent roads and convenient train and bus services travelling here is easy.
Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa form together the Metropolitan Area with one fifth of the population of Finland. It is the centre of political, economical, cultural life, where design, architecture and high-technology flourish hand in hand.
Old Town of Raseborg
The seaside towns of Hanko and Raseborg are located west of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area. They offer visitors historical events, unique natural surroundings, delightful local cuisine and an appealing archipelago throughout the year. Old ironwork villages, charming seafaring atmosphere and picturesque old villas characterize this sunny part of Finland.
Porvoo and Loviisa are idyllic coastal towns situated east of Helsinki. Porvoo is Finland's second oldest town and it was an important trade centre already in the 13th century. The town of Loviisa for its part is characterised by its 18th century fortifications, wooden houses and outstanding manor houses.
