Whether you are into downhill skiing, cross-country skiing or snowboarding, the ski centres of the region offer everything you need for an active and varied winter holiday. Himos, the largest ski centre in Central Finland, is only one hour's drive from Jyväskylä and 2,5 hours from Helsinki. Himos has twice been selected as Ski Resort of the Year, whilst being given particular credit for its family-friendly services.

In addition to skiing, in Central Finland you may also opt for tour skating, snowshoeing, ice swimming or white-water fishing. Thrill-seekers find new challenges in rally driving and snowmobiling.

Jyväskylä Region

Located at the northern end of Lake Päijänne, the provincial capital Jyväskylä is a renowned congress city, and home of the Jyväskylä Arts Festival, with its Theatre Without Words, as well as Neste Oil Rally Finland, the Finnish leg of the rally world championship.

You can immerse yourself in Finnish sauna tradition at the Muurame Sauna Village. Other places worth visiting: Petäjävesi Old Church (1765), included on UNESCO's World Heritage List, Keuruu Old Church and Stone-Age Village in Saarijärvi.

Alvar Aalto Museum

Architect Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) had a major influence on the architecture of his hometown Jyväskylä. Alvar Aalto museum at Jyväskylä is dedicated to one of the world's great architects. There are several buildings designed by him in this region, representing the whole range of his creative production. Comparison of his designs within such a compact area is only possible in this region.

Neste Oil Rally Finland

The Rally, which was held in 1951 for the first time, is the biggest motor sports event in Scandinavia, gathering over 200 000 spectators along the roads of Central Finland every year.
