Winter in Kajaani Region

The snowy highlands welcome visitors to Kainuu. The location of the region in the northernmost regions of Järvi-Suomi (Finland's Lake District), on the border of Lapland, ensures the ski resorts slopes and pipes and thrilling safaris have excellent snow conditions. The weekly programmes and wide range of indoor activities guarantee the most diverse holiday in Scandinavia.

The cross-country ski network covers hundreds of kilometres over hills and across wide open frozen lakes. There are ski school services and easier trails, on even terrain, for beginners and families. More advanced skiers can participate on long ski treks on the eastern border, or ski along the more difficult trails provided, which are illuminated through into late evening. In Vuokatti, you can ski throughout the year in the ski tunnel, even in the heart of summer.

The weekly programmes have guaranteed departures for snowmobiling, snowshoe hiking, ice-skating on frozen lakes, winter fishing, husky rides, and the unforgettable experience of swimming the rapids in watertight suits. The younger members of the family are also taken into consideration in the weekly programme with activities suitable for the whole family. Week-long snowshoe, husky and ski safaris traversing the taiga forests are available and the snowmobile safaris can even take you as far as Russian Karelia.
